A dynamic campaign is going on across the country to readjust, reinforce and perfect the nation’s irrigation system in accordance with the Workers’ Party of Korea’s programme for the rural revolution in the new era, with a step forward taken in improving the irrigation of the rural economy.
South Phyongan Province’s Mundok County carried out the work to put the irrigation system in the county on an IT basis in contact with the Agricultural Informatization Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science.
In the course of this, it has completed a water control system by using a relevant support program Surihwa .
According to the developers, the system geared to scientific water control shows a digital map that marks the locations and characteristics of water sources and irrigation facilities in the county, such as waterways, rivers and streams, reservoirs, pumping stations, drainage lock gates and major observation posts.
This system helps the county make effective use of water by reducing water consumption at farms.
It also makes it possible to minimize the damage from disastrous abnormal weather especially in the rainy season by immediately grasping water level, drainage volume and other information at drainage points and taking relevant measures in consideration of the tidal condition in keeping with the characteristics of the coastal county.
And the orders issued by the county rural economy committee are simultaneously conveyed to the lower units to ensure the prompt control of water.
As a result, the county has been able to control a scores-odd-kilometre waterway in a scientific manner.
Now the researchers at the Agricultural Informatization Institute are working to generalize the success gained in the county to other cities and counties across the country.
