The Socialist Constitution of the DPRK is a reliable legal guarantee, a powerful political weapon giving strong impetus to overall national rejuvenation of our own style aspiring after mightiness and advancement, modernity and civilization. It also serves as the statute book stipulating people-first principle with which to ensure the stability of the country, and protect the rights and interests as well as happy life of the people

After the liberation of the country, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung initiated and discussed the enactment of the law on agrarian reform as the land is the very foundation of the working people and the country. He then proclaimed a series of laws on democratic reforms, the most democratic and people-oriented in nature, that were enacted in the name of the people.

Building on these successes, he proclaimed to the entire world the Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on December 27, 1972, in due reflection of the will of the people and urgent call of the times.

The law of ours, the most original and people-oriented in nature, have been enacted and enforced not by the hard work of any prominent lawmaker but by the considerate guidance of President Kim Il Sung and by the people so as to serve them. The law has performed a noble mission and role to endow people with substantial status and capacity as the masters of everything and to ensure that they lead an independent and creative life.

Thus, the Socialist Constitution, formulated by President Kim Il Sung serves not only as the most popular and revolutionary statute book embodying the immortal Juche idea but also as the unique political charter, the first of its kind in the constitutional history of the world.

With the seasoned and outstanding leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , our Republic is now displaying its might as the most dignified and independent power and a genuine people’s country where everything is meant for their service.

It is respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who developed the Socialist Constitution of ours into Kim Il Sung - Kim Jong Il Constitution by elucidating the theoretical and practical issues arising in the Juche-oriented legislation. He also saw to it with wisdom that the state power organs enhance their sovereign and legal functions and roles without any letup.

With all the provisions codified in conformity with the independent and creative nature of the popular masses and to be applied to the letter in the overall state activities and social life, the Socialist Constitution highlights further the popular nature of our Republic as a dignified State of the people.

The Socialist Constitution of ours, the statute book of the people-first principle, will continue to perform with credit its eternal historic missions as a solid guarantee for rejuvenation and the everlasting prosperity of our great country and also as a powerful political impetus for the cause of building a powerful socialist country.
