Hwasong Kindergarten No. 3 in Hwasong District was newly built when Hwasong Street was constructed in the capital city of Pyongyang.
Built under the special care of the state, it gives one-year general education and one-year preschool compulsory education to over 200 local children aged between 5 and 6.
“Kindergarten days are a very important period for human development. It is no exaggeration to say that the future destiny of man is decided by what kind of education he receives in this period,” said Ri Kum Hyang, head of the kindergarten.
The two-storey kindergarten with a total floor space of over 3 000 square metres is divided into more than 10 education rooms, intelligent game room, playroom, dining hall, indoor swimming pool, medical room and others.
In the morning the children study in the education rooms and in the afternoon they cultivate their talents belonging to hobby groups of piano, singing, dancing, janggo , kayagum , organ, abacus and paduk (go).
The teachers make efforts to find out and train gifted geniuses and talented children. Only a few years have passed since it was opened, but it has been ranked among the top three every year at national events such as the contest of children with extraordinary talents and the robot contest of kindergarten children.
The kindergarten also encourages the teachers to create new teaching methods. In doing so, it regularly organizes exemplary and trial classes and demonstrations so as to constantly improve their practical qualifications. As a result, heuristic methods rather than spontaneous or spoon-feeding ones are applied in education and every nook and cranny of the kindergarten is used for education.
In addition, it has developed programs like Jusandongsan and Urimaldongsan that proved effective for the education of children. The teaching method by way of Jusandongsan 1.0 is recognized as a good example worthy of emulation across the country.
Like all others, the kindergarten is regularly supplied with dairy goods, eggs, confectionery, meat, fish and fruits according to the nationwide system of supplying nutritious foodstuffs to children.
“Seeing the children happily growing in the new kindergarten in the new street, I think that Korean children are the happiest in the world. I’d like to have two more boys,” said Jo Myong Sun, mother of An Kang Song who attends the kindergarten.
