We mark the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Kingdom of Thailand this year.
5 decades ago on May 8, 1975, diplomatic relations were established between the DPRK and the Kingdom of Thailand. Since then the friendly and cooperative relations have started between the two countries on the basis of independence, mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits.
Permeated in the half-a-century-long annals of Korea-Thailand friendship are the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung who dedicated himself to the development of bilateral relations.
President Kim Il Sung met in person His Majesty Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, King of the Kingdom of Thailand, on his visits to Pyongyang in the capacity of the crown prince in March 1992 and June 1993 respectively. The President offered him valuable advice to comprehensively develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries across various fields.
President Kim Il Sung also met with almost 200 personages from Thailand including Princess Galyanee Vadhana, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindon and other members of the Thai royal family, and high-level government and party officials from 1980 to 1994. It provided further impetus for the development of friendship and cooperation.
The two countries have sustained mutual support and close collaboration in the regional and international arena. The DPRK's accession to the ASEAN Regional Forum in July, 2000 when the Kingdom of Thailand was the chair of ASEAN is the tangible proof of the above.
The government of the DPRK remains consistent in its stand to value and develop in greater scope the friendly and cooperative relations with the Kingdom of Thailand with a 50-year-long history in line with the common interests.
