The 54th sports contest of artistes took place at the BasketballGymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang on November 27-28.
The contest, divided into the cinematic art and theatricalart fields, included various events such as basketball, volleyball, tabletennis, tennis, tug of war, Taekwon-Do, ssirum(Korean wrestling) and sports and amusement games.
It was seen by Choe Chang Hak, deputy department directorof the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Sung Jong Gyu,minister of Culture, officials, creators, artistes, teachers and others in thefield of culture and the arts.
A march-past of participating units and graceful dancemovements and rousing cheers of artistes to the tune oflively and light music lightened theatmosphere of the contest.
The players displayed high sports techniques, a strongsense of organization and discipline and noble sportsmanship which they hadhoned in the mass sports activities in ball games, Taekwon-Do pattern and ssirum matches and various amusementgames, which were held amid enthusiastic cheers.
The tug of war climaxed the sports contest.
The cinematic art field won the tug of war bydisplaying the spirit of collectivism and great perseverance.
The theatrical art field topped the total rankings atthe contest.
The 54th sports contest of artistes was an occasion fordemonstrating the revolutionary enthusiasm of officials, creators and artistes inthe field of the arts who conduct vigorous activities to create and producemasterpieces true to the idea and spirit of the Eighth Congress of the Workers’Party of Korea and plenary meetings of the Party Central Committee and adding great joy and optimismto the whole society.
