2024 is the year when the ten-year revolution for regional development started, which is the first of its kind in the nearly 80-year-long history of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

At the beginning of the year, the Workers' Party of Korea set forth the new "Regional Development 20×10 Policy".

The policy represents the steadfast will of the Party to keep hold on the construction of modern regional-industry factories in 20 counties every year as an unerring policy task, carry it out successfully and thus further raise the basic material and cultural living standards of the people in all cities and counties and, in another word, across the country within ten years.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK, has made painstaking efforts for its implementation all the year round.

The first ground-breaking ceremony for implementing the "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" took place in Songchon County of South Phyongan Province, a typical intermediate mountainous area in the DPRK.

Kim Jong Un took part in the ceremony, delivered a meaningful speech and broke ground first to signal the start of the construction of regional-industry factories.

On February 28, Kim Jong Un said anyone who is born on this land should lead an abundant and civilized life under the socialist policy of the state, whether they live in the capital city or regions, in towns or mountain villages, and it is the core of the new policy of regional development to see to it that they do so without fail.

He visited the construction sites of regional-industry factories in order to bring about successful results from the year when the regional development policy was advanced.

In those days, a new crucial measure was also taken to hasten the epochal development and comprehensive rejuvenation of regions by carrying out simultaneously the construction of the public health facilities, sci-tech dissemination bases and grain management facilities along with the building of regional-industry factories.

On August 31, Kim Jong Un convened a consultative meeting for regional development project and said the policy for regional development in the new era should not be confined to the construction of light-industry factories but should be a comprehensive policy dealing with public health, science and education. And he clarified all the principles to be adhered to in building advanced city and county hospitals, sci-tech dissemination bases and grain management facilities.

Those were newly added as the three-point construction task essential for regional rejuvenation.

Later, he pointed out the importance and significance of the three construction projects newly added to the "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" and stated that the sci-tech dissemination bases, which had already been intended as an additional project, should be built into comprehensive bases for cultural life.

Among the cities and counties he visited this year is the city of Sinpho of South Hamgyong Province. He went there two times.

Kim Jong Un set the city of Sinpho as a model unit and energetically led the work to generalize it and bring about a substantial improvement in the economic development and the people's living standards in the coastal cities and counties.

He came to the city again in November in the wake of July and took powerful measures to perfectly conclude the project before the December Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee.

Now regional-industry factories have been built as the first fruits of the ten-year revolution for regional development in the DPRK, showing the transformation of the regions.

On December 20, an inauguration ceremony of the regional-industry factories in Songchon County for the "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" took place with attendance of Kim Jong Un.

Tens of regional industry factories will be inaugurated in nearly 20 cities and counties across the country all at once like those in Songchon County along with the beginning of the new year.

To make the capital envious of the regions, to make regional rejuvenation represent the progress and development of our state and to make the true image of our style of socialism mirrored on the ideal appearance of the regions–this is the plan of the Workers' Party of Korea for the new era.
